THE 2024 ICF DRAGON BOAT
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Philippine Canoe Kayak & Dragonboat Federation (PCKDF) and the Organizing Committee, in conjunction with the International Canoe Federation (ICF), warmly invite all National Dragon Boat Teams to participate in the 2024 ICF DRAGON BOAT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS for the distances 200m, 500m and 2000m.

31-Oct to 3-Nov 2024

The 2024 ICF DRAGON BOAT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS will be held from 31 October to 3 November 2024 at the Puerto Princesa Baywalk – Palawan, Philippines.  Competing crews are advised to arrive in Palawan, Philippines no later than Tuesday, 29th October 2024. Crews arriving earlier than the opening of the Regatta Course will be assisted by the PCKDF in terms of the logistics and accommodations, provided they have the approval of the Organizing Committee.

Puerto Princesa Baywalk is a long stretch of a well-paved promenade on Sandoval St., Puerto Princesa, Palawan. Puerto Princesa Baywalk has been a popular hangout spot for locals and tourists alike because it is clean and accessible.

Locals and tourists come to the Baywalk to relax and enjoy the view of the bay. Some go jogging; others do brisk walking or strolling, while most are just hanging out. The cool breeze from the bay makes it perfect for unwinding and relaxation.

Air travel from Manila to Puerto Princesa takes a little over an hour and is available via Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and Air Asia.

OPENING CEREMONY

The opening ceremony will take place at the race venue before the start of the races ie. on 31 October 2024.

ENTRY CONDITIONS

Each Country may enter one team per nation.

COMPETITION FORMAT

The championship will be conducted according to the ICF Rules of Racing by ITOs and NTOs, under the direction of an ICF Chief Officials and with a Jury nominated by the Organizing Committee.

REGATTA COURSE

The regatta course has 6 lanes of 10 meters each for 200m and 500m, using the Albano system for 200m and boat holder for the 500m start.  

Photo finish and computerized results processing will be provided at the finish tower on site. There is a grandstand for spectators and guests. Parking spaces are also available. VIP guests of the Host Organising Committee (HOC) and ICF will be able to enjoy the races from the VIP area with a view over the whole regatta course.

BOATS AND EQUIPMENT

ICF authorized boats will be provided by the Championship HOC. Competing crews are expected to bring their own paddles & buoyancy aids (optional).

A Rallying Cry for Climate Action

The 2024 ICF Dragon Boat World Championships integrates world-class sportsmanship with environmental stewardship, inspiring and influencing athletes and communities alike in raising awareness for climate action through Save the Puerto Princesa Bays Project.

The City Government of Puerto Princesa thru the leadership of Hon Mayor Lucilo Bayron launched the 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗣𝘂𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀𝗮 𝗕𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 which was held at Bgy. Mandaragat, Puerto Princesa this morning July, 15, 2023. 

The project aims to improve the water quality of all bays in Puerto Princesa and to keep them waste-free and ensure healthy bays for all. Puerto Princesa has three (3) major bays; Puerto Princesa Bay, Honda Bay and Ulugan Bay; and three (3) minor bays: Turtle Bay, Oyster Bay and Binunsalian Bay.
